Course Description

An in-depth study of disease processes which affect the human body. This course provides a foundation for the body of knowledge necessary for the understanding and interpretation of medical information found in health records and medical information systems. Part 1 of 2.

Prerequisites

This course is open to all medical, dental, public health and health related professions students who have completed the pre-requisite Anatomy & Physiology, or by permission of the instructor.

Course Goals and Outcomes:

Goals

This course provides the students with a foundation of knowledge in the causes, effects and treatments of diseases and disabilities in order to be able to analyze and appropriately utilize health information.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Utilize the knowledge from the study of normal human anatomy and physiology and apply the concepts to the study of pathology and pathophysiology.
Explain the pathogenesis of disease and disability.
Analyze and present in a logical and sequential format, the effects of disease and the disability of a patient.
