BINF4500 - HIM Competency Review
 
Course Description
This course builds on the concepts of all courses students have taken within the health information management program. The course provides students with the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their course work, and to assess their level of mastery of the stated outcomes of their degree program in Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management.

Prerequisites
This course is open to students who have completed all required BINF 3000 level courses as well as BINF 4310 Performance Improvement, BINF 4305 Health Services Management and BINF 4220 Guided. All 4000 levels classes can be co-requisite courses which must be either taken concurrently with this course or must have been completed previously.

The goal is to prepare the students for the national exam credentials. The course provides students with the opportunity to integrate and synthesize the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their course work.
 
Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Recognize, evaluate and handle effectively the various types of professional and administrative problems and decisions encountered by the registered health information administrator.

Apply essential legal and ethical principles to typical life situations found in Health Information Management.

Apply principles of management and organization to the understanding and resolution of problems encountered by the registered health information administrator.

Identify new trends in the practice of Health Information Management.

Identify and describe changes in regulations affecting the operation of a Health Information Department
