Course Description

This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of the topic of project management and leadership. The life sciences industry is in business to profit from sales of their products and services, none of which would be available without having first started out as an individual project. Due to the increasingly competitive arena, growing regulatory requirements, and huge development costs, it is essential that drug development be managed in the most efficient manner. This course will focus on leadership competencies required for clinical research project managers to manage their teams effectively and foster a collaborative culture. It will provide opportunities to apply project management methodologies, utilize technology, and create technical components project managers employ to enhance the quality and conduct of a project.

This course is a 3-credit, graduate level course provided via the Internet using the Canvas Platform (a Learning Management System (LMS)).

The goal of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the topic of project management and leadership as it relates to clinical research.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will have the ability to:

Explain the core knowledge of foundational project management principles, techniques, and practices and how these relate to life sciences products and services.

Discuss the impact of cultural diversity and the need for cultural competency when conducting clinical research.

Critique the principles and practice of leadership and professionalism in clinical research.

Generate components of a communication plan for the prevention or management of the ethical or professional conflicts that are associated with the conduct of clinical research.

Create technical components of a project management plan utilized to produce project performance.

Apply critical success factors for analyzing and reporting on project performance.

Utilize technologies, methodologies, and techniques project managers employ to enhance the quality and conduct of a project.
