DCYT6305 - Independent Study

Course Description

The Independent Study course is designed to provide students with faculty and mentor guided experiences to further develop, expand, and confirm student competencies. These experiences include but are not limited to service-learning projects, study abroad programs, serving as teaching or graduate assistants, basic research projects not requiring Institutional Board Review (IRB) approval, and developing education and other programs.

Credits/Modes of Instruction

Credits: 3

Mixed Mode

The Independent Study course is offered for a range of credits, from 1 to 3. The number of credit hours for the course is determined by the faculty/mentor and is dependent on the time required for and the scope of the project. Credit hour determination adheres to the guidelines of one credit hour equivalency to 30 to 45 hours. The credit hours can be achieved working on projects, participating in service learning or other activities.

Prerequisites

The course is open to students in the MS Diagnostic Cytopathology post professional program and other graduate students enrolled in CLMIS programs. Students must receive advisement and approval from their program director and/or academic advisor to enroll in the course. Students considering taking the Independent Study course are encouraged to meet with their faculty/mentor the semester before the project to prospectively plan and discuss program options and finalize the number of credit hours for the course.
